If you support the Democrats accomplishing needed improvements during these next two years, please contact your Senators NOW with the following message: Now that the Democrats have control of both houses of Congress, the expectation is high that you will do what is necessary to solve the many crises we have been left with, after too many years of Republican control. Please don't make the mistake made during the Obama presidency. Please END THE FILIBUSTER now, while you can. If the filibuster remains in place, little will be accomplished because you will rarely get enough Republicans on board to achieve 60% majority. With little accomplished, Republicans will gain seats in 2022 with the slogan "Democrats gave us a do-nothing Congress." And Progressive Democrats will have less enthusiasm to get out the vote if none of their wish-list is accomplished. Please don't make the mistake of playing defense - worrying about what happens if the Republicans regain the Senate without the filibuster in place. Now you have a majority; now is the time to play offense. Furthermore, "majority rule" is 50% plus one. A 60% majority is flat-out undemocratic. Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist 22, the idea that a supermajority encouraged cooperation had proven deceptive: “What at first sight may seem a remedy, is, in reality, a poison.” Rather than encourage cooperation, the effect of requiring more than a majority substitutes the pleasure, caprice or artifices of a minority to the regular deliberations and decisions of a respectable majority.
